Free Photo Walk of Friendship this Sunday
wharfe photowalk

So, I’m going to be honest here. Last Friday I felt like my world had been pulled from beneath my feet. Since then I have gone through an emotional rollercoaster not too dissimilar to that of bereavement. Sadness, shock, confusion, anger, frustration, bitterness and even blame. Some of you may understand this, some may not; it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that we are all standing on a precipice of uncertainty. Uncertainty can be scary but it can also be exciting. Uncertainty can exacerbate division but it can also unite.

One of the best (and maybe hardest) things about being a photographer is that you have to find common ground very quickly with whoever you’re photographing. You will never find someone who agrees with every single thing you believe. But from my experience, there is always something that can connect you to another human being. And that is one of the most beautiful things about being human.

In my lifetime I have never known our most wonderful United Kingdom to be so divided. I believe that everyone wants the UK to be great, but I don’t think this will ever be achieved while we are divided. Hard as it may seem right now, we need to overcome our division by uniting over something, over anything.

I have been walking and taking photos ever since I had my first camera. It is something that heals me, soothes me, lifts me and revives me. It’s something I want to share with everyone. It’s something I want to share with you.

This Sunday, 3pm,  3rd July 2016, I want to offer you two hours escape from all the uncertainty and division with a free guided photo walk along the banks of the river Wharfe in Ilkley. The Wharfe is a boundary that divides and unites both North and West Yorkshire. Human interaction with the Wharfe goes back as far as the Iron Age. It is a stunning river full of wildlife and wonderful scenery. You’ll get a chance to get lost in the magic of taking photos in a magical place. So whether you were in, out or didn’t vote. Whether you’ve got a DSLR or a camera phone, or just want to walk and take pictures with your eyes. Whether you are born in Yorkshire or Timbuktu, I would love to see you. Dogs are most welcome too!

We will meet by the Old Bridge Nursery, Stockeld Rd, Ilkley LS29 9HD
