Learning Photography at Washburn Valley
Earlier this summer Walking Photographer Tours was asked to develop and lead a short photography course at Washburn Heritage Centre. The centre is a fully fitted contemporary building that extends out from St Michael’s and St Lawrence Church. The Grade II listed 17th Century church and it’s adjoining centre are located just off of Swinsty Reservoir and make a great place to visit for anyone exploring the Swinsty and Fewston reservoirs.
The photography course was a two day event. The first day was a mixture of classroom based demonstrations and practical exercises around the reservoir. On the second day we divided people into smaller groups, each group had a 2 hour photo walk where they could get more detailed and personalised tuition, tackling topics and questions specific to individuals and their cameras.
It was a great couple of days and I loved getting to know the folk who attended. The attendees really enjoyed getting to know their camera more while learning some of the key principles behind great photos!
"The course and its presentation was very informative, providing a greater insight into the potential of the DSLR, opening up workings of the camera normally avoided due to the anticipated level of complexity."
"Delivery, content and presentation very good, relaxed but positive approach to achieve the aims of the course"
"It was very helpful, and has reduced my fear of exploring the camera settings, and I can now begin to control the options!
"The course was a good combination of teaching general principles of photography, and personal tuition and help with each person’s camera."
"Balance between presentation, explanation and field work excellent. Your style is personable and you have terrific patience with your clients. I would attend another workshop/walk and also recommend to friends"
