Under the Festive Lights: A Perfect Night for Photography in York

York Minster

There is a special kind of magic that descends on York when the sun goes down in December. This past Wednesday, a full group of us headed out to capture that atmosphere on our sold-out night photography walk.

The weather gods were kind, gifting us with incredibly clear skies that allowed the city’s festive lights to truly sparkle. We wandered from the grand, illuminated icons that define the York skyline into the darker, atmospheric hidden gems that many visitors miss. The contrast between the bustling Christmas markets and the quiet, ancient alleys provided endless photographic opportunities.

It was wonderful watching attendees master long exposures and find new ways to frame this beautiful city.

While it’s always tricky getting away my on shots during a workshop, I’ve put together a gallery of some photos I did manage to captur from the evening to share the experience. Enjoy!
