Capture the Magic of Historic York by Night

There’s nowhere quite like York after the sun sets. The medieval streets take on a magical glow, and the crowds disappear.

Join our small, friendly workshop to explore this atmosphere with your camera. We’ll capture the awe-inspiring York Minster under floodlights, find stunning reflections in the River Ouse, and master the unique lamp-lit character of the Shambles.

This is a hands-on session focused on getting the best quality photos possible. You'll learn to control your camera and capture the city's unique magic in a safe, fun, and supportive group.

  • Bring: A tripod and a camera with manual controls (e.g., Aperture/Shutter priority or full Manual).

  • Hire: Both cameras and tripods are available to hire if needed!

Leeds: Where Victorian Grandeur Meets Modern Shine

From historic cobbled streets to sleek city skylines, Leeds offers an incredible playground for night photographers. This workshop is designed to help you capture it all.

We will explore the city's most photogenic spots, balancing the old (like the magnificent Victorian cobbled streets) with the new (like the vibrant waterfront at Leeds Docks). You'll learn to photograph silky light trails, glassy reflections, and dramatic, well-lit architecture.

Join a small, friendly group, have fun with your camera and see the city in a whole new light. I’ll make sure everyone gets the guidance they need in a safe and relaxed environment.

Malham Night Sky Photography

Have you ever looked up at a vast, starry sky and wished you could photograph it? This workshop is your chance. We're heading to Malham, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales Dark Sky Reserve, where the lack of light pollution reveals a breathtaking cosmic view.

This session is completely different from our city workshops. It’s a dedicated, hands-on session where you'll learn the specific techniques for astrophotography. I’ll talk you through the magic settings to:

  • Focus your lens in dark sky environments.

  • Getting the right exposure to make the stars "pop."

  • Techniques for planning Milky Way shots

You'll be learning and doing, the exact skills you need to hunt for and capture the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). Join our small, friendly group for a safe and unforgettable night under the stars.

Obviously we can promise clear, star-filled night sky, but the skills and settings you’ll learn will ensure you’re get the best night sky shots at every future clear night sky!

  • Bring: A tripod and a camera with manual controls (especially manual focus and high ISO settings).

Master Moody, Atmospheric Night Shots in Howarth

If you love atmosphere, this workshop is for you. Join us as we explore the world-famous cobbled streets of Howarth after dark. We'll explore the village's historic heart, from the top of the steep, cobbled street to the quiet lanes and churchyard. This is a practical session where you'll learn to master atmospheric night photography.

As part of a small group you’ll be guided step-by-step to:

  • Find the best viewpoints and compositions.

  • Control your camera's settings for that perfect, moody feel.

  • Capture the texture of the cobbles and the glow of the old-fashioned lamps.

It's the perfect way to enjoy a night of creative photography, safely, and in a fun, small-group setting.

An Extended Night-Time Journey Through Whitby

From the majestic, gothic Abbey on the clifftop to the tiny, lamp-lit hidden ginnels of the old town, Whitby is a photographer's dream after dark. This is an extended photo walk, giving us quality time to explore it all.

  • Walk and set up at the most famous sites, framing the harbour reflections, the 199 Steps, and the Abbey itself.

  • Explore the hidden corners and quiet backstreets that most visitors miss, finding unique, atmospheric compositions.

  • Listen as we talk you through the best camera settings for capturing everything from boat lights on the water to the texture of the old stone.

I’ll be showing you the best viewpoints and techniques to capture the town's unique maritime and gothic atmosphere. It's the perfect way to spend an evening learning, having fun, and safely discovering the magic of Whitby at night.

At night, the grand vision of Sir Titus Salt takes on a new, dramatic life. The huge, floodlit mills and the beautiful, formal avenues create a stunning photographic playground.

Join our small, friendly group to explore this architectural marvel. We’ll guide you to the best viewpoints for capturing the village's most famous landmarks, from the striking silhouette of Salts Mill to the quiet, atmospheric terraces.

We'll be on hand to demonstrate the techniques for capturing the warm glow of the streetlights against the cool stone, helping you master night photography in a safe and supportive setting. This is your chance to photograph a complete, beautifully designed world.

Night Sky Photography Multi-Day Workshop

This is it. Your most comprehensive, immersive workshop, designed to take you on the complete journey from capturing the beauty of the night skies to holding a professional fine-art print in your hands.

This multi-day experience combines in-depth learning with real-world adventure.

  • Daytime Studio Learning: We start indoors with practical learning sessions, inspiring slideshows (Visual), and clear demonstrations (Auditory). We’ll cover the specialist techniques for astrophotography, from focusing in the dark to planning your shots.

  • Two Nights of Shooting: After dark, we put it all into practice. We’ll explore (Kinesthetic) several hand-picked dark sky locations over two nights, giving you ample time to capture the cosmos with our 1-to-1 guidance.

  • Specialist Editing Sessions: Shooting is only half the story. You’ll join two dedicated editing workshops (Read/Write & Kinesthetic), where we’ll show you (Visual) the specific techniques to stack, edit, and enhance your dark sky photos to a professional standard.

  • Your Fine-Art Print: On the final morning, you'll bring your masterpiece to life. You will personally create (Kinesthetic) and take home a stunning A3 fine-art print of your best image, produced on our professional printer using heavy-weight archival cotton fibre paper.

This is a small-group, friendly, and supportive bootcamp designed to transform your night photography skills.

Knaresborough’s view over the River Nidd is one of the most famous in Yorkshire, and at night, it becomes truly magical. The towering, floodlit viaduct and the charming riverside buildings, all mirrored in the water, create a scene that's as exciting as it is challenging to photograph.

This workshop is a engaging session focused on capturing not just that breathtaking view, but some of the less well known nooks and crannies that make for equally engaging photos.
