What will I see at Bempton Cliffs?

At its peak (May to July) Bempton plays home to around 500,000 birds! It’s one of those few wildlife tours where sightings are actually guaranteed! In this busy coastal metropolis, you can expect to see gannets, fulmar, kittiwake, guillemots, razorbills and of course everyone’s favourite puffins!

As well as the gannets nesting, bickering and cruising the clifftop breezes, from time to time we might even see gannets diving in the waters below not far from the cliffs. Other species that we may catch a glimpse of also include barn owl, hare, roe deer, kestrel and the stunning peregrine falcon!

August to April is no less inspiring at Bempton.  As Autumn and Winter approaches the birds of the fields flock together in large numbers and the gannets, some still with chicks can be seen spectacularly surfing the sea breezes. Hare, deer, kestrel and barn owl can be seen year round you might even catch a glimpse of many rare migrant visitors or even a short eared owl! In the late Winter and early Spring Fulmar start to look for nests and perform mesmerising displays.

What camera gear do I need?

There is something for everyone at Bempton  Cliffs and with the right creative approach you can take awesome photos with any camera.

The Puffins can occassionally offer close encounters, particularly on windy days  but must of the time they'll be some distance from the viewing platforms. Therefore lenses with 200mm plus will be an added bomus. Alternatively you might consider using a camera phone placed over a pair of binoculars or telescope.

If you’re unsure or would like to know more about what to bring please get in touch.
