This practical workshop starts out at Rich's studio in the beautiful surroundings of Burley-in-Wharefdale, less than 30 minutes from Leeds, Bradford, Skipton and Harrogate, and five minutes' walk from the village railway station.

We start off with an introduction, where you will receive tips and advice on optimal settings and different approaches to creatively capturing nature, utilising Rich's many years of experience in wildlife photography.

After that, the group heads out to a local nature reserve with hides in which you can put what you have learnt into practice capturing stunning images of the varied and fascinating wildlife to be found in the area, all under the guidance of award-winning photographer, Rich.

    St Aidan's Sunrise Photography Walk

    • Saturday 11th January, 7:30am - 11am, £35

Join me for a photography walk around the stunning expanse of RSPB St Aidan's Nature Reserve in Leeds at sunrise. A former open cast coal mine, it is now a treasure trove of wildlife activity, including Bitterns, Black-necked Grebes, Little Owls, Kestrels, Black-headed Gulls and Lapwings.

I'll be on hand to guide you through some of the techniques to capture stunning images of the wildlife and their habitat at this magical time of day.

    Photographing Kingfishers in the Wild

Specific hides can offer great encounters for kingfishers, though they can be expensive and not for everyone. This workshop offers a different approach. Focussing on seeking out kingfisher habitats that allow you to enjoy the spectacle of kingfisher behaviour day after day.

We'll spend the day looking at fieldcraft techniques and  camera skills that will enable you to go out and start creating magical encounters of your own, in your own local patches.

The Fast & The Furious! Red Squirrels in the Yorkshire Dales

Red Squirrels in the Yorkshire Dales

Join me and a small group of like-minded folk as we explore one of the most enchanting corners of the Yorkshire Dales.

Capture the fast & the furious! Capturing these small, high-octane bundles of cuteness on the woodland floor is far from easy. Luckily, I'll be sharing my top tips and experience to ensure you have the best chance to capture some eye-catching folio-worthy red squirrel shots.

Spring Spectacular (Grebes, Warblers, Owls Galore), Leeds

    Black necked Grebe St Aidains

Join me and a small group at one of my favourite urban wildlife spots to explore. Every spring the jaw-droppingly gorgeous black-necked grebes return to hatch and raise their young. As if that isn't enough tons upon tons of waders claim their nesting spots too, while birds of prey like red kite, peregrine, kestrel, sparrow hawks and marsh harrier can cause an eruption of drama! On a good day several species owl can be spotted along with double-figure species of warblers (the grasshopper warbler being a particular highlight).

Bittern, cuckoo, green woodpecker and so much more, the site also has a bit of a reputation for regularly attracting rarities including garganey, black-winged stilts, spoonbills, curlew sandpiper and so much more and if you're "knot" sold by all that you never will! :D

As always, I'll be on hand, sharing my top tips and best settings according the latest wildlife making an appearance.

What if the weather forecast is bad?

You may be surprised just how many bad forecasts result in beautiful days - it happens a lot!

What if the weather is bad?

It is surprisingly rare to have an event that is completely marred by the weather. With a deep to commitment to offering fun and enjoyable photo walks and workshops, if the event is judged to have been ruined by the weather participants will be given a 50% discount voucher off a future Photo Walk workshop up to the same value.

Can I bring my camera phone or tablet?

Yes! We welcome camera phone and tablet walkers on most photo walks. There are some events like Get a Grip Course and the Night Photo Walks where you require manual functions on your camera. Such events are clearly noted in the descriptions.
