Bought a great camera but your photos are still disappointing? Stuck on 'Auto' and overwhelmed by the confusing manual and endless buttons?

This one-day, small-group workshop is the solution. It is a practical session designed to cut through the jargon and give you creative control, for good. Refined for over 10 years to be the fastest, simplest way to get off 'Auto'. It doesn't matter if you have a new mirrorless camera or an older DSLR. If it has manual controls, this day is for you. We focus only on the settings that really matter.

• You will learn:

  • The "Big 3": What Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO actually do, in plain English.

  • How to get that beautiful blurry background (bokeh).

  • How to freeze fast action (like kids, pets or wildlife) or blur it (like a waterfall).

  • How to get the right focus and exposure, every time.

• You will get to:

  • Have constant hands-on practice with your own camera, with my personal feedback as you shoot.

  • See live demonstrations that make the "click" in your head.

  • Receive simple, jargon-free checklists to take home.

This is not a theory lecture. We will spend the day doing and applying.

  • Advanced Focusing: We'll go deep into all your AF settings and show you the secrets to better focussing

  • Perfect Exposure: We'll master the Histogram to nail exposure every time (including that age old question to expose to the Left or Right?).

  • Total Customisation: We will unlock your camera's true power by setting up Custom Buttons and Custom Modes

  • Smarter Composition: We'll move beyond the Rule of Thirds to explore more dynamic and powerful compositional techniques.

This practical, small-group workshop is here for you. It's designed to cut through the jargon and give you the core settings and approach to get up and running, correctly, from day one.

So many users get in a mess before they even begin. My goal is to prevent that, giving you a simple, scalable system that "future-proofs" your development with the software.

• You will learn:

  • The "What & Why": We'll demystify the Lightroom Catalog (what it is, what it isn't, and how not to break it).

  • The Simple Workflow: Learn the core process: Import, Organize (in the Library module), Edit (in the Develop module), and Export.

  • Core Edits: How to use the most important sliders to fix exposure, recover detail, and make your photos "pop."

• You will get to:

  • Have hands-on practice using your own laptop (or Macbook Pro available to hire), with my one-on-one guidance as you import, cull, and edit.

  • Follow my screen as I demonstrate the entire, simple workflow from start to finish using photos selected to demonstrate eveyrthing you’ll need.

• The "Secret" to Light: How to use natural light, reflectors, and diffusers to create beautiful, soft lighting.

• Spend the day using your camera, shooting a wide variety of close-up subjects

• Practice, practice, practice—this is a "doing" day, helping you to build new skills that stay with you
