Learn to See the Street: Street & Travel Photography Walk
Street & Travel PhotographySkill Level: Beginners to Advanced with a digital camera that comes off auto (a phone works too)
Location and terrain: London Bridge & Southbank; flat city pavements, steps, taken at a gentle pace with plenty of stops
Ever taken a trip, a load of photos, and got home to find none of them show what made it special? That's just one of the things this photo walk aims to help with. Seeing and realising photographs on the streets and on travels, is a magical feeling. My job is to help get you there faster. Giving you a fresh perspective, new skillset that will help grow your confidence and approach with your camera.
We'll walk together through some of London's most photogenic streets, and I'll show you how I work. Absorbing the bustle of the popular, iconic areas like Borough Market as well uncovering some of the less well known views, angles and encounters. Make sure you’ve got a clear memory card; this is a doing walk, not a watching one, and by the end you'll have a way of working you can take to any city in the world, which is where the travel part comes in.
Throughout the walk we’ll be focussing on practical ways to get the best from the scene with any camera, as a group but the small, friendly group size ensure plenty of opportunity for individual, tailored guidance.
On the walk you'll learn:
How to read light on the street and put yourself where it's working
Finding a strong background and waiting for the right photo to happen
Photographing people and building confidence in everyday interactions
Exploring narrative and meaning within a frame
Different approaches and techniques to get the best from scenes and encounters
Night Photography Walk, Richmond upon Thames
Skill Level: Beginners to Advanced with a digital camera that comes off auto and a tripod (both available for hire)
Location and terrain: Richmond riverside; flat paths at a very relaxed pace, standing still for stretches while exposures run
Ever wanted to capture stunning night scenes worthy of hanging on you wall? This is the walk for you! Five days before Christmas, Richmond looks its most magical after dark: the Georgian arches of Richmond Bridge glow warm above the Thames, festive lights string out along the riverside, and if the water behaves you get the whole scene reflected. Not to mention those iconic scenes from Ted Lasso!
This is a slower, quieter kind of photography, and I love it. We'll get the tripods steady, and I'll walk you through it step by step while you experience the sights and sounds of a festive Richmond. You don't need to have shot at night before; plenty of people arrive having never taken their camera off auto , at the same time we have people who are a dab hand with their cameras and just enjoy the process, all are welcome!
On the walk you'll learn:
Long exposures step by step: shutter, aperture and ISO without the headache
Composition techniques and advice
Setting up and levelling a tripod quickly in low light
Mastering tricky lighting environments and balancing colour
Recent Project

I'll walk you through it step by step while you soak up the sights and sounds of the Southbank after dark. These walks are always small, friendly and are open to people of all abilities and experience levels. Absolute beginners to grand masters, all are welcome!

I have been fascinated and obsessed with photography since receiving a 110 film camera bought for me by my Mum in the Avon catalogue. Since then I’m enjoyed exploring a wide range of photography subjects, but maybe the unifying theme for me is the idea of recording a slice of time in a single frame.
